AUGUST 2021
In 2020, I moved to San Francisco straight off travel into the unknown. I had never visited the Univ. of San Francisco, hell I had never been to the west coast before. It was a blind adventure because there’s only so much you can absorb from online research especially coming from Europe with different customs. It was weird adapting to a whole different location after becoming accustomed to the life of a Roman expat.

While at USF, I built my resume around men’s soccer with the hopes that it could someday get me to a European football club – a logical way to get there miraculously, right? Well, those dreams have shifted a bit. I know I would love the European exposure (long-term) later in life, but pursuing what? I quickly took to digital media and marketing.

In light of the major social justice issues last year, I started to notice something. I grew passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. Every company finally knows how important DEI is these days. In addition, the pandemic threw everyone for a loop. I did not think (like many) that we would still be in a purely digital-dependent world. Finding a career postgrad is quite a challenge. Finding a career in a pandemic is not much easier. Lucky enough, in March, I joined a company full-time that I thought was going to serve me in the best way, but unfortunately it did not. In just 5 short months, I left and my mental health eternally thanks me for it. My generation is lucky to be able to get away with the pressure of not maintaining a role through even the toughest of times just because you “have to.”

Eight months later and I’m still feeling the postgrad blues. However, I’m putting in the work to make sure I land with a company that actually cares about me and my values and wants me there for the long haul. And beLiEVe me – the pandemic does not make this any easier. I’m ready for a career and best believe I’m putting in the work.
